Speaking Difference

Author Elif Shafak recently gave a TED Talk on the politics of fiction. Drawing attention to the ways that identity politics serve to divide, she encourages the audience to feel and be free, to seek knowledge that takes them beyond their comfortable cultural ghettos in order to cultivate closeness and connection. She proposes cultural storytelling–fiction–as a way break away from the clusters we form based on similarity.
